Everyone was surprised and saddened when the Ward Freman swimming pool closed in December 2023. The community was quick to start a petition to try and keep the pool open and we received many supportive comments via a community survey.
Once established as a charity, we were originally seeking government funding for the entire scheme from the Community Ownership Fund and had had an expression of interest approved. Unfortunately this fund was closed following the 2024 general election. We are now pursuing a phased approach to achieve the vision of the pool reopened and refurbished. We do still need to demonstrate the effect losing the pool has had on the community and how much support there is to get the pool back open again, hence the initial (Jan 2024) and recent (Feb 2025) surveys.
