As part of the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) Drowning Prevention Week 15-22nd June 2024, the Ward Freman Community Pool Group are hosting a ‘Save a life, save a pool’ event on Tuesday 18th June 2024. This event aims to provide vital water safety and lifesaving skills whilst raising some money to help save our swimming pool.

Since the Ward Freman Pool was closed by the council in December 2023 the community has been coming together to try and repair, revitalise and reopen it as a community run, not for profit pool. Helen and Ian Baron have generously donated the use of their heated outdoor pool in the beautiful rural location of Great Hormead.

We are running one hour practical sessions where you will receive tuition from a fully qualified RLSS Lifesaver trainer. Basic lifesaving skills on how to rescue someone from the water, whilst ensuring your own safety will be taught.  This is open to everyone aged 7 and over (children must have an adult remain on site during the event), who is able to swim at least 15m and is prepared to get wet!

Tickets are priced £10 per person with practical sessions starting at 4pm or 5.30pm.
If you would like to bring a picnic to enjoy afterwards, Ian and Helen are happy for you to enjoy a summer evening in their garden, just remember to take home everything you bring!

For those of you who would rather not get wet (but we can’t guarantee the weather), we invite you to a more sedate event at 8pm in the garden. Starting with a welcome reception drink (fizz and bubbles but no alcohol) there will be a water safety presentation and water related quiz. This session aims to educate you on vital water safety in a fun relaxed evening whilst raising some money to help save our swimming pool. Tickets are priced at £5 per person further refreshments can be purchased during the evening with cash or card.
