The building work continues this week with the steel beam being installed and the rest of the block work being finished off. Long time friend of the project Bespoke Wizard, Robin was back, this time installing a wonderful new reception desk donated by one of his suppliers, Wedd Joinery.

We received an unexpected visit on Friday from Rob Walker of local commercial interior specialist firm Evolving Spaces Ltd. He has offered to supply and install the complete cafe kitchen! We are overwhelmed by this gesture. The words “extremely grateful” don’t even scratch the surface. I could have kissed him! (I’m glad I didn’t though as it would have been inappropriate and he’s quite a big bloke!) A firm handshake was enough. Work on this will begin as soon as the design has been finalised.

Elsewhere, Mark Addison was back to carry on with some running tile repairs (with a hammer?!) He will also be attending to the kitchen tiling too, the preparations for which will be completed next week.

The most significant news of all, in a week of good news as you may have seen on Facebook, is that after almost three years, water has returned to Ward Freman pool! Hoorah! It was quite an emotional and landmark moment when under the watchful eye of Calder from our contractors SPE (and Bobetta), Hazel and I turned on the tap and began the filling. This was the culmination of all the work and donations by so many people so far and all of us here at WFCPG are immensely grateful to everybody who has contributed. This is just the first phase though. Once we open for business, fundraising will continue in order that we can achieve the vision of a fully modernised facility, able to accommodate different activities at the same time.

Anyway, back to the pool. How long will it take to completely fill? Did you enter the Facebook competition and have a guess? The winner will receive a free swim plus complimentary hot drink and cake afterwards! Good Luck.

Finally this week we interviewed prospective lifeguards. The selections will be made in due course, but this is another step forward, building the staff members in preparation for opening.
