Things are really “hotting” up this week and with so many trades in the building the end of the refurbishment is drawing ever nearer!

With the filters commissioned and the water circulating, JCS are back to commission the boilers and begin the pool water heating process. Very much like the filling, this has to be done oh so slowly to allow the structure to adapt to being warm again! The real danger of going too quickly, is that the tiles will pop off, as has happened elsewhere we’re told! Three degrees a day it is then.

The DR Heating guys have begun installing the new shower infrastructure beginning with the “arteries” as they called them. Big, preinsulated pipes to carry the water all the way to the other end of the building, losing (virtually) no heat along the way. Did you see the photo (below) on Facebook of the old ones? No wonder the showers were terrible before! An real indication of the hardness of the water around here and the importance of water softening. The new shower heads began going in towards the end week too and are looking very shiny!

Rob Walker’s team from Evolving Spaces Ltd have arrived to begin fitting the cafe kitchen. An immensely generous offer from Rob for which we are eternally grateful. Apart from one tiny little design modification (for which I nearly got chinned!) everything is fitting in nicely and just like Robin’s reception desk, it will look a million dollars.

We witnessed the power of Facebook this week as Freman College offered us the bike rack which had been moved from Church Street and was surplus to the Colleges’ requirements. It was up to us to reposition and fix it down and within 24 hours that had been achieved by the fantastic James and Rob. As they said, it’s all about having the right tool!

The week was rounded off by Calder from SPE fitting the Chlorine and Ph monitoring equipment, with which the pool plant refurbishment is complete!
