On Friday 27th October 2024 the David Lewis Memorial Golf Day raised £1500 for the Ward Freman Community Pool Group.
David’s son Mark and his wife Sharon have been raising money for local charities over the past nine years. When they heard about the closure of the Ward Freman Swimming pool, they knew instantly that in this, the 10th year, the money raised should go to help refurbish and reopen the pool.

David was a PE teacher at the Ward Freman School when it first opened and spent many school lessons at the swimming pool.

Whilst the pool is standing dry and empty, the recent wet weather nearly put a dampener on the charity event. However the excellent staff at East Herts Golf Club ensured the greens were ready to go and after a short delay and nearly 50 players teed off.

Host Mark Lewis with his team mates Phil Church, Gary McPartland and Richard Pearce played well, but were not the winning team.

That accolade went to Team Hayes with Peter Walker being the individual winner.

Many thanks go to Mark and Sharon for hosting this event and all the participants who helped raised this fantastic amount.
