This week there is an update on the filter refurb. Whilst painting it after the old pipework had been removed, it was discovered that the original legs to the vessel had rusted through! Nothing is too much trouble for the GRC Filtration lads, so after a “Nay botha, we can sort that oot man” (in a Geordie accent!)  Additional legs have been welded on, painted and all is well!

AquaTilers Ltd’s Simon and Paul continue working in the pool. They are currently removing the old expansion joints which were the main cause of the tiling issues which led to the closure, so we’re very glad to see the back of them! As we are to see the back of that mound of odd white stuff halfway up the shallow end. (Remember that?) It was a putty-like substance used as temporary repair I’m told. Anyway, it’s gone as has that area of broken tiles that used to be covered by that blue mat. To all of those who generously contributed to the tiling Crowdfunder, this is what it was for and it is brilliant to see the work actually taking place!

Many thanks this week go to Ian Allen who, together with his colleague Fred was able to remove the unused safe from the building with relative ease and no swearing, even though it must have weighed over a tonne!

Local firm Webb Scaffolding have come forward to assist us and have erected a tower which will enable JCS to line the old chimneys to create the correct flue set up for the new boilers.

Coming next week:

The work to connect the water main. Thanks again to local farmer Ian Baron and Dave and Ian from Dr Heating who together will be taking care of what is required from us by Affinity Water. Look out for photos of diggers, trenches and pipes! Thanks go to Jack Poulton Building Supplies for discounting some of the materials we’ll need as well.

Don’t forget our DIY day on 12th July. We will be asking for help to prepare the internal drainpipes and internal doors for painting as well as hopefully fixing the missing roof cladding. We’ll need a team prepared to also go on the roof to checkout a leak on one of the down pipes and clear the moss etc from up there. One job has already been taken care of by Dr Heating – taking off a radiator in preparation for a bit of remodelling in the old male staff changing room.
